Shortly after 7:00 p.m. on November 10, 2020 Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to a St. Charles Place address to assist a victim that had just made a citizen's arrest of a thief that was attempting to steal his licence plates. Upon arrival officers learned the accused and an accomplice pulled up beside the victim's vehicle and began removing the licence plates off of the pickup truck.
The victim noticed what was going on so he ran out and entered into the accused's vehicle and attempted to restrain the accused. A female passenger got away however with the assistance of some neighbours the victim was able to apprehend the accused until police arrived. During the incident the accused assaulted the victim causing a minor injury to the victim.
Further investigation revealed the accused was driving a stolen pickup truck that had been taken from a business in Goderich earlier that morning.
Christopher KURTH, 35 years of age from Central Huron has been charged with Assault, Theft Under $5,000, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 and Fail to Comply with Probation Order. He remains in custody with a court date scheduled for November 18, 2020.
