On March 11, 2024, shortly before 8:00 p.m., the James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that had no lights to the rear, on Highway 11 between Cochrane and Smooth Rock Falls. An investigation led to the arrest of the two occupants, and a subsequent search of the vehicle.
Police seized drugs suspected to be methamphetamine tablets, cannabis resin (hash), as well as bear spray, a large kitchen knife, and a small quantity of Canadian currency. A total estimated value of the seizure was $1700.
As a result of this investigation, Jonathan FORGER-HOTTE, 29-years-of-age of Mont Laurier, QC was charged with the following:
Trafficking a schedule I substance – Methamphetamines
Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – Methamphetamines
Possession of a prohibited device for a dangerous purpose
Possession of a prohibited weapon contrary to a prohibition order – five counts
Possession of cannabis for the purpose of distributing
Fail to comply with probation order
Further, Frederic PRIVE, 32 years-of-age of Saint Colomban, QC was charged with the following:
Trafficking a schedule I substance – Methamphetamines
Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – Methamphetamines
Possession of a prohibited device for a dangerous purpose
Possession of cannabis for the purpose of distributing
Drive vehicle with cannabis readily available
No clear view to the sides
Drive without proper rear lights
No clear view to the rear
Both accused persons were released and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on April 9, 2024 in Cochrane.
