Date: Sat Aug 10 03:33:17 MST 2024
Officers attended and determined that two horses were being ridden by their owners (no buggys involved) Northbound on King Street. One horse was spooked by nearby construction which caused the horse to run into traffic and was struck by a Southbound vehicle. The rider of the horse was taken to hospital with serious injuries but not deemed life altering or life threatening.
The road was closed for the investigators to assess the collision.
The OPP want to remind all drivers to slow down and move over for vulnerable road users such as horses, horse and buggy, bicycles and tractors. When it comes to meeting a horse, slow down and be patient, pass the horse wide and slow, avoid actions that could spook the horse such as sounding your horn or revving your engine. Horses can be unpredictable, please travel safe around these animals.
