On August 25, 2024, at approximately 2:40 a.m., members of the Lambton County OPP received a report of a stolen motor vehicle from an address on St. Clair Parkway, St. Clair Township.
Shortly thereafter, police received a traffic complaint involving a vehicle with similar descriptors to the reported stolen vehicle in the same area.
Members of the Lambton County OPP promptly located the vehicle and attempted to initiate a traffic stop on St. Clair Parkway, north of Dufferin Avenue. However, the driver failed to stop for police. In the interest of public safety, the officer did not pursue the vehicle.
At approximately 3:35 a.m., Lambton County OPP received a report of a single-vehicle collision on Chiefs Road, north of Austin Road, Walpole Island First Nation.
Upon police arrival, the investigating officer established the vehicle involved in the collision was the vehicle previously reported stolen and fled from police earlier.
As a result of the investigation, Ryan JOHNSON, a 33-year-old from Wallaceburg was arrested without incident and charged with the following Criminal Code and Highway Traffic Act offences:
· Theft of motor vehicle
· Possession property obtained by crime over $5,000
· Operation while impaired alcohol and drugs
· Flight from peace officer
· Failure or refusal to comply with demand
· Driving while under suspension
The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on September 24, 2024, in the City of Sarnia to speak to the charges.
The Lambton County OPP would like to take this opportunity to thank the individuals who contacted police to report information relating to this incident. As a direct result, officers were able to locate the stolen motor vehicle and take the driver safely into custody.
