Christopher MATEMBA Was Arrested

On September 7, 2024, at 7:47 a.m., a member of the Essex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) while performing a speed enforcement initiative on Mersea Road 1 in the Municipality of Leamington, observed a vehicle travelling over 100km/h in the 60km/h zone.
Initially, the driver failed to stop for police, however the vehicle did come to a stop at which time a traffic stop was initiated.
The driver resisted arrest and assaulted the police officer. As a result, the officer utilized the Conducted Energy Weapon (Taser) to gain control and arrested the driver.
As a result, Christopher MATEMBA, a 36-year-old of North York, has been charged under the Criminal Code and Highway Traffic Act with:
· Assault with intent to resist arrest
· Resist Peace Officer
· Flight from peace officer
· Drive Motor Vehicle Perform Stunt Excessive Speed
The drivers licence has been suspended for 30 days and the vehicle has been impounded for 14 days.
The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Provincial Traffic Court on October 17, 2024, in the City of Windsor to speak to the charges.
