A Guelph man faces robbery and weapons charges after suspected bear spray was discharged inside a west-end apartment building.
Just after 6 a.m. Saturday police were called to an apartment building near Willow Road and Dawson Road for a concerning smell inside the building. Officers arrived and spoke to Guelph Fire Department personnel, who advised a noxious substance had been discharged in one of the units.
While officers were on scene they were approached by two residents. They advised a male known to them had attended their unit earlier in the morning and brandished a cannister of spray while demanding the females purse. A physical altercation between the males ensued, during which the spray was discharged.
A 32-year-old Guelph man was located later in the day at an address downtown and arrested. He is charged with robbery, administering a noxious substance and mischief. He was held for a bail hearing Monday.
Man robbed of drugs he just bought
The Guelph Police Service is investigating after a man was sprayed in the face and robbed of drugs he had just purchased.
Just before 6:30 p.m. Sunday emergency services were called to a business near Waterloo Avenue and Edinburgh Road South after an injured male arrived asking for help.
Investigation revealed the male had attended an apartment on Waterloo Avenue to buy drugs. A short time later he was sitting in his car when two individuals approached and sprayed a noxious substance through the window into his face and stole the drugs.

Business break-in
The Guelph Police Service is investigating after a west-end business was entered early Friday.
Approximately 1:25 a.m. police received an alarm call for a business near Speedvale Avenue West and Marksam Road. Officers arrived to find the front door had been pried open and was slightly ajar. A tobacco cabinet and several drawers were open but it was not immediately known what was taken.

Impaired arrest after three parked vehicles struck
A Guelph man faces impaired and dangerous driving charges after three parked vehicles were struck Sunday evening.
At 6 p.m. police were notified of a collision on Auden Road. Officers arrived and found three vehicles with severe damage and a fourth with moderate damage. No injuries were reported.
An officer spoke to the driver and noted he had an odour of alcohol on his breath and slurred speech. He was arrested and transported to the police station, where tests revealed he had close to three times the legal amount of alcohol in his system.
A 52-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired driving and dangerous driving. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days. He will appear in court February 7.
