On April 16, 2025, just after 9:00 p.m., an off-duty police officer and a member of the public called police to report a traffic complaint involving a tractor-trailer that was driving in the middle of the road and well-under the posted speed limit, northbound on Highway 416. Members of the Grenville County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) quickly located the vehicle while still on Highway 416 and stopped it.
The officers observations led into a roadside impaired driving investigation. The driver was subsequently arrested, and further testing was conducted at the Grenville County OPP Detachment. Test results were more than three times the legal limit.
Mario Sami, 47 years of age, of Toronto, Ontario, was charged criminally with operation while impaired alcohol, and operation while impaired blood alcohol concentration 80 plus. The accused was also charged under the Highway Traffic Act with unnecessary slow driving.
The accused was later released with a future court date at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brockville.
