AI Used To Arrest Huron East Resident In Seaforth

On Friday, August 29th, just before 1:00 p.m., Huron County OPP officers conducted a traffic stop on Main Street in Seaforth, Municipality of Huron East after the police vehicle automated licence plate recognition (ALPR) system alerted to a vehicle.
The investigating officer discovered that the driver was prohibited from driving under the Criminal Code and was subsequently placed under arrest and taken into custody. The driver had also consumed alcohol prior to driving and was transported to the Huron OPP detachment in Clinton where they provided breath samples before a qualified Intoxilyzer Breath Technician. Breath samples were provided to police which resulted in readings over the legal limit.
Stolen property was also discovered inside the accused vehicle.
Jason VANBELLE, 50 years-of-age from Huron East, has been charged with:
Operation while Prohibited,
Operation while Impaired Over 80,
Fail to Comply with Undertaking,
Possession of Stolen Property Under $5,000,
Altering/Destroying/Removing a vehicle identification number.
The accused was additionally charged with four offences found in the Highway Traffic Act (HTA), Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act (CAIA), and the Liquor Licence Control Act (LLCA).
The involved vehicle was towed and impounded for 45 days.
The accused was processed, held for a bail hearing, and remanded into custody with a court appearance scheduled at the Ontario Court of Justice Goderich.
